March 02, 2004 at 21:36:27: All CVT #5 Customers After
close examination of the #5 turnout ties, I found that indeed there
is an alignment problem with the frog here (0.014" error with the
slotted hole position was too close to the through track side of the
tie-plates). Over the weekend I have fixed the problem in the tie
molds, both the left and right were out about the same amount.
Our
#5 turnout kits did pass a 4-8-4 locomotive with no derailments. My
dad (who has constructed dozens of turnouts) preformed all the inspection
on the kits as well. He and I are amazed that we did not catch this
problem before the first production run!
I
apologize for any inconvenience involved and would like to replace
everybody's #5 ties who have yet to install on there projects. Hopefully,
the few people who have already installed there #5 ties will find
them to work as smooth as our test kits do.
